Application
For the use of biospecimens, an online application [LINK] must be submitted. The prerequisite for this is a defined scientific project with a short project description (project outline). Furthermore, information on third-party funding, project-related cooperation partners, project-related ethics vote and statement of the data protection officer and the concrete tissue request (type and number) are requested.
The management checks whether all necessary information is available and clarifies the availability of the requested biospecimens. The applicant is informed of the result in writing no later than six weeks after the request is made and, if necessary, a handover date is agreed.
In the following, we will guide you through the application process and explain which documents are required.
You can use these forms to submit an application to us for the use of tissue [LINK] and liquid biospecimens. In advance, you will receive an estimate of the biobanking costs for your project via this app. However, this is an estimate, an exact invoice will be issued only after an agreement has been concluded.
After you have filled out the respective form for biospecimen use, the iBioTUM team will check the availability of the desired biospecimens in the central and decentralized (subunits) sample repositories. If the samples are available in the desired type and quantity, your application and the documents - ethics vote (if available) as well as statement of the data protection officer - will be handed over to the Use and Access Committee. This committee will then make a decision on sample issuance. For this purpose, you will be contacted without fail.
However, if the samples are of a special nature (e.g. SARS-CoV-2) and/or scarce, the Executive Committee of iBioTUM will decide on sample issuance.
Following this, we will contact you to conclude a collaboration agreement or a collaboration contract, if applicable.
If you first apply for a grant for your research project, contact us office.biobank@mri.tum.de. We will be happy to advise you on the biobanking part of the application process.
