Medical research often touches on sensitive aspects of human life, including health, dignity and personal rights. It is therefore crucial that it is based on ethical principles that ensure the protection of the individual. This is where the ethics committee comes in. An independent ethics committee is an indispensable body that evaluates the ethical aspects of medical research projects and helps to bring respect for human life to the forefront.

An ethical evaluation by an ethics committee is necessary to ensure that medical research projects respect the human rights and dignity of participants. It helps to maintain trust in medical research and ensure that science is in the service of humanity. Research conducted without such ethical review risks jeopardizing the well-being of patients and undermining trust in the medical community.

The ethics committee considers not only whether a research project meets ethical standards but also whether the risks to participants have been minimized and the potential benefits maximized. It evaluates the methodology and design of the study to ensure that the rights and welfare of participants are safeguarded at every step of the research process.

This rigorous review ensures that research projects are conducted with integrity, prioritizing the rights, safety, and welfare of participants. This ensures that medical research can make its important contribution to improving human health without compromising the values we hold dear.

Please note that a Use and Access procedure for biospecimen use will not be initiated without a positive vote from the Ethics Committee.

On this page, you will find an electronic tool eTIC from the Ethics Committee of the Technical University of Munich, which will guide and advise you well through the application process. For other questions regarding ethics, please contact the office of the Ethics Committee.
